If you are a Christian and you have put your faith and trust in Christ alone for eternal salvation, why would God punish you? Paul tells us that “being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom 5:1), and “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” (Rom 8:1).
So does God mean what He says? Did Jesus pay for all sin? The hymn writer put it well, My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
However, God can and does discipline His children, like any loving father, “My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth” (Heb 12:5-6).
God isn’t punishing you, but He may correct you to help you live more like Jesus. This is proof you are His child, which should make you thankful.
